London Suburban Station Concourse Flooring

18,000 m² of Anadolu Gri granite; flamed-and-brushed finish with PTV 60+ slip resistance.

In the renovation of a suburban railway station in the United Kingdom, 18,000 m² of Anadolu Gri granite was used in the concourse, platforms and stairs. In a station that sees 60,000 passengers a day, high abrasion and slip resistance were the key specification.

Project summary

  • Flamed-and-brushed finish, PTV 62 (wet), Böhme abrasion ≤ 18 cm³/50 cm²
  • Grooved slabs machined for tactile (accessibility) warning strips
  • Platform edge: 5 cm thickness, matched to yellow contrast strip
  • BS EN 1341 and CE documents, independent laboratory reports
  • Night-delivery programme: three-shift installation while the station operated

Throughout the project Petrova's logistics partner in the UK managed in-warehouse stocking of slabs and just-in-time dispatch to site. No slip-related incident was reported in the first twelve months.

Result

In the first six months after reopening the station handled about 10 million passengers with no measurable wear on the floor surface. The project led to a follow-on contract with Petrova for two further station renovations.
